Julie Ertz Signs with Angel City

Los Angeles (PSF) — After almost two years away from the professional game due to injury and pregnancy, USWNT midfielder makes her return to professional club soccer. Ertz re-joined the USWNT for their April friendlies against Ireland. Now she’s returning to the NWSL for Angel City FC. Angel City has been in desperate need of some midfield strength, so Ertz should get playing time soon. We could see her as early as Saturday’s match against San Diego Wave FC.

The Chicago Red Stars traded Ertz’s rights to Angel City back in the 2022 Expansion Draft, but she never signed with the team. Not long after that, Ertz revealed her pregnancy. She and husband Zach Ertz welcomed their son Madden in August of 2022.

It is not surprising that Ertz would sign with Angel City. The team could use help in the midfield and she needs minutes to prove herself worthy of the World Cup roster. Also, Angel City allows her to be fairly close to husband Zach, who is a tight end for the Arizona Cardinals.

Julie Ertz is a great addition to the Angel City team, and they could be quite unstoppable, as soon as Christen Press and Sydney Leroux return.
