NHL Legend Bobby Hull Passes Away
Hall of Famer and former Chicago Blackhawk, Bobby Hull has passed away at 84 years old.
The Chicago Blackhawks announced the death of Bobby Hull on Monday Jan. 30, 2023. Letโs take a look back at some of his accomplishments and the highlights of his outstanding career.
The Golden Jet, as he was known throughout the league for his blonde-hair, skating speed, and high-velocity shots, joined the Chicago Blackhawks in 1957 at only 18 years old. During his debut year he was second in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy, and earned the Art Ross Trophy two years later for leading the league in points.
Hull is best known by Blackhawks fans for ending their 23 year drought and winning the Stanley Cup in 1961. He is also a two time winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy.
The Golden Jet set numerous scoring records throughout his career:
In 1966, Hull became the first NHL player to score more than 50 goals in a season. He ended the 1966 season with 54 goals, the highest single-season total during the โOriginal Six eraโ (1942-1967), and 97 points.
In 1968, Hull broke his own record with 58 goals.
Hull was also well known for curving his blade, and is responsible for the โBobby Ruleโ which banned curved blades because of the potential danger to goalies.
The Golden Jet retired in 1980 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame three years later.
