Jonathan Toews Steps Away

Chicago Blackhawks Captain, Jonathan Toews, has announced he is stepping away from hockey due to long term effects of COVID-19. Toews, who has not played since January 28th, is hopeful he will be able to play again this season.

When asked about Toews on Sunday, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said “ We know this has been a real difficult period for him. We miss him being around the team, and we want to get him back around the team and on the ice. But in the meantime, we're going to work with him and support him in whatever he needs to make sure he's feeling good and feeling strong and in a spot where he can come back on the ice. We'll take it day by day, but the hope is he can still play some games here down the stretch."

Toews, who missed the entirety of the 2020-21 season with what he called Chronic Immune Response Syndrome, has spoken before on what he has dealt with since having the COVID-19 virus. Many fans wonder if this could potentially be the end for Toews. One can only hope that Toews, the No. 3 pick in 2006, will be back out on the ice in some point in the future.
