The Best Matchups to Watch of Week One
Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs, Thu Sep. 7, 8:20 PM EST
The Chiefs are coming off their Super Bowl win and start the season off against a Lions team that was red hot at the end of last year. The Lions are receiving a lot of hype going into the season and this game could easily turn out to be another shootout like we saw the Chiefs and Rams do on Monday Night Football back in 2018. No matter the outcome, this will be a game most football fans will be watching to see if the Chiefs will have a Super Bowl slump this year like the Rams did last season.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts, Sun Sep. 10, 1:00 PM EST
Before Anthony Richardson was named the starting quarterback for Week One this game would not have been on this list at all. However, with the naming of the rookie as the starter this game is a lot more interesting as we will get a much earlier look at Richardson in regular season play. The Jaguars are the clear favorite to win the division this year and this game may be a good precedent to see how the rest of the division will compete against them this season. On the same note, every game in Week One with a rookie starting quarterback will be one to tune into with the Panthers starting Bryce Young and the Texans potentially starting C.J. Stroud.
Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers, Sun Sep. 10, 4:25 PM EST
Both of these teams come into the season with very high hopes after they each finished last year on a bad note they wish not to remember. The Dolphins get a chance early in the year to show their fans and haters if they will be the real deal or not this year. Justin Herbert, who is coming off a huge new contract extension now has even more eyes on him to perform well after being given a huge pay day. This may be the last season for Brandon Staley to take the Chargers deep into the playoffs or he could risk being fired from being head coach.
Buffalo Bills at New York Jets, Mon Sep. 11, 8:15 PM EST
The time is finally here to see Aaron Rodgers play for the New York Jets after many months of waiting to see if his trade would even be finalized. The Jets are in the same spot as the Dolphins as they get a week one matchup to show if they are the real deal or just all smoke and mirrors. Expect this game to be a shootout like the Lions and Chiefs Thursday night game with this turning into a high scoring contest. Sean McDermott and the Bills are looking to bounce back after being eliminated early in the playoffs last season. McDermott got extended this offseason and it would be a great start to the contract to go on Monday Night Football and beat a team like the Jets who have been all over the media this entire offseason.
The rest of the games scheduled for week one are either boring matchups in my opinion, or games that have clear winners like the Minnesota Vikings at Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup. Matchups that have a slight chance of being exciting in week one that are not on the list are Bengals at Browns, 49ers at Steelers, and Eagles at Patriots.
