Buffalo, New York (PSF) - Devin Singletary could not be depended upon as a traditional running back, severely limiting Buffalo’s ability to close out vital games.

Now that Devin Singletary is gone, James Cook will take on that burden.  Of course, he is not alone with that burden anymore.  Buffalo has signed the excellent Damien Harris and the pair are backed up by one of the best backups in the league, Latavius Murray.  Harris and Murray will be excellent support, but it will be Cook who decides the future.

He will succeed where Singletary failed, and he will break out as one of the best backs in the league this year.

When Cook was allowed to shine, he was among the brightest rookies of the 22-23 season.  He averaged more yards per carry than his brother Dalvin Cook, whose seeming lack of interest from Buffalo is another key indicator of James Cook’s possible upside this coming season.  Of course, his numbers would shift with a larger workload, but Cook was able to get yards against great defenses while Singletary couldn’t.  There are reasons to be hopeful that Buffalo can finally establish their run game in the Josh Allen era, returning them into the highest of heights in the AFC.

The front office has the confidence in Cook to wait and build with him, General Manager Brandon Beane has been conservative, even in the face of mounting Super Bowl pressure, he will not abandon projects that are on schedule, and that is exactly what James Cook is.  As long as the defense is even middling, Buffalo’s Super Bowl window has been reopened for the foreseeable future.
