Green Bay Packers Enter Their First Season of Love

Green Bay, Wisconsin (PSF) - Jordan Love is finally set to become the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers three years after their front office shocked the world and traded up for Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, rather than this being a time of panic for Packers fans, this should be a time for hope and excitement. The front office has hit the quarterback lottery twice before, why not hope and expect a third shot?

In his time behind Aaron Rodgers, Love became a center of controversy and an easy target to pick on in the media world rather than shown as a quality player in the making.

Now, this incredibly young team looks to Love to be their leader who can tune out the adversity, and they are already showing great confidence in the Utah State alum from Bakersfield, California.

“I’m less concerned about the end result right now. But I do believe that if the process is correct, he is going to be more consistent. So, within that, it’s just the footwork, the clean mechanics, keeping a base in the pocket, being able to throw at any point in time,” said Head Coach Matt LaFleur during a presser on June 6th.

LaFleur is aware that going from the level of the Packer’s previous quarterback to Love is not going to be an easy adjustment and that patience is key to putting together the right system.

It has been 15 years since the Packers had a new distinguished QB1, but Love is not the only fresh face on the offense. With wide receivers Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard both following Rodgers to New York, Love’s primary targets will be second-year wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson, along with rookies Jayden Reed and Luke Musgrave. 

Doubs in particular has recently been pointed out as Love’s hottest target so far this offseason. “When in doubt, you can throw it out there and you know he's going to make a play, and he's done a great job of going and getting the ball wherever it's at,” Love said about the 23-year-old receiver. Doubs has stated he feels more comfortable with the new quarterback situation as well. 

With the WR1 spot still vacant since Davante Adams signed with the Las Vegas Raiders last year, hopefully, this mix of chemistry and offseason dedication can make Doubs a prime candidate. 

There must not be a better way to truly begin Love’s legacy as a Green Bay Packer than to have him battle it out against Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. This classic Week 1 matchup features the most iconic rivalry in all of football, with both teams entering the year hoping they have found their next franchise quarterback. It’s almost time to see Love’s work start to pay off and maybe get a glimpse into the team’s future.
