Do the Dallas Cowboys Have the Best Secondary in the League?

Dallas, Texas (PSF) - As the 2023 NFL season approaches us the rosters for each team starts to take shape and we see who the starters and rotational players will be. One of the biggest groups each year is the secondary. We have seen some pretty legendary groups over the years and this year I think I know who will be the toughest to lineup against.

The Dallas Cowboys have probably the best secondary in the NFL as of right now. Their corners consist of All-Pro Trevon Diggs and former All-Pro Stephon Gilmore who the Cowboys traded for this offseason. The duo alone of Diggs and Gilmore sounds scary as it can already be, but I think the slot position is the room that is being overlooked. Dallas has Daron Bland who was a surprising fifth round rookie last year who ended the year with five interceptions. Bland also took over for Jourdan Lewis who was playing some pro-bowl level football in 2021. Lewis broke his foot last year, ironically while getting an interception. With Lewis back this year we will see who gets the majority of the slot reps in 2023. There is also Eric Scott Jr, who the Cowboys took in the sixth round this year and has impressed with the first team so far in minicamp. Head Coach Mike McCarthy has raved about Scott being one of the better rookies so far in minicamp.

Now there is the safety group, Malik Hooker, Jayron Kearse, and Donovan Wilson. Malik Hooker has been an amazing free safety in the last two years since he signed with the Dallas and has outplayed his contract by miles so far. Next is Jayron Kearse, who is one of my favorite safeties in the league because he can play everywhere, from the box, nickel, free safety and strong safety. Lastly is Donovan Wilson, who just signed a three year extension with Dallas this offseason. Wilson nearly made the All-Pro team last year and has improved every year so far.

This is probably the best secondary is Dallas Cowboys history, so this is a group to keep a look out for heading into the 2023 season. Under Dan Quinn, this could end up being a championship level group.
