Breaking: Chris Paul being waived from Phoenix Suns

ESPN/NBA

Reports have flooded in after 5:00 pm today after the Phoenix Suns announced that they waived Chris Paul and he will become a free agent this offseason. Paul will join the likes of Kyrie Irving, Russel Westbrook, and many other point guards who are just trying to find a home.

I’m a bit surprised here, I’m well aware of how old he is and how often he gets injured, but his effect on offense is certainly unmatched. When OKC brought him in, they didn’t expect to be a playoff team. However, when the time came to shine, Paul led the charge. Paul brought the OKC to the 10th seed going 40-42 out of 82 games. Then he rolled through the ninth and eighth seeds to be inserted into the playoff before the Portland Trailblazers swept them in the first round.

However, this does not excuse Paul’s play during the playoffs: averaging 12.4 points per game (PPG), five rebounds per game (RPG), 7.4 assists per game (APG), 1.7 steals per game (SPG) on 41.8% shooting and 32.1% from the three-point line.

Paul should reconsider his role similar to how Westbrook did. Maybe Paul should become a sixth man on a team that can allow him to run the offense and be that floor general you need to be able to close a game. I hope he finds a team that can appreciate his presence because I do not want to see another star without the chance to win the Championship.
