Machado signed a 10-year mega deal worth $300 million with the Padres after the 2018 season.

On Friday, star third baseman Manny Machado confirmed his intention to opt out of the final 5 years and $150 million of his contract with the Padres after the 2023 season.

His reasoning in the interview that took place on Friday was that, β€œThere’s a lot of money out there.” But he also states that his decision for next year (2024) will not affect his plans for the team in the 2023 season. He states that the team knows where he stands with his situation but all of his focus is towards the 2023 season.

The Padres front office has made it known that they have every intention of trying to retain Manny into 2024 and beyond. Where do you think he might end up?
