Luis Severino Starts The Season on the Injured List

USATSI

The Yankees starting rotation takes another hard hit, as right-hander Luis Severino was diagnosed with another “low-grade” lat strain that will land him on the injured list (IL) to begin the season.

Currently, 60% of the bombers’ starting rotation is starting the season on the IL, including left-hander Carlos Rodon and right-hander Frankie Montas.

Severino will not throw until he is pain-free. There is no exact timeline to when he can return to the rotation, but it is projected that he will miss three or four starts. The injury is not expected to be as severe as the lat strain that cost him two months last season.

Severino was asked if his rehab would be taken slower due to his injury history, and he responded saying it is up to the Yankees.

Last season, Severino was transferred from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL to give him more time to build back from the lat strain, which he was unhappy about.
