The Toronto Blue Jays started the second half of the season with a big win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The scoring started in the bottom of the second inning, where the new Home Run Derby Champ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would launch a ball 426 feet to left field to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning Kevin Kiermaier would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run for the Blue Jays. The Diamondbacks would score a run in the 4th inning when Blue Jays starter José Berríos would throw a wild pitch allowing Ketel Marte to score. In the top of the 7th, Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno hit a solo homerun against his former team to tie the game at 2.

In the bottom of the 7th, Kevin Kiermaier would lead off with a double followed by George Springer being hit by a pitch. Bo Bichette would line out to right field moving Kiermaier to third base. Brandon Belt would ground into a fielder’s choice where Kiermaier would score. Guerrero Jr. would hit a single putting runners on first and second, before Matt Chapman would rip a double down the third baseline scoring a run from second and moving Guerrero Jr. to third while making the score 4-2. Whit Merrifield would score both runners with a single to right field while he moved to second base on the throw home. Daulton Varsho would get hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second. Merrifield would score on a throwing error by Ketel Marte making the score 7-2. Amazingly enough for the Blue Jays, 4 of their runs in that inning came with 2 outs.
