Bat’s Key for Series WIn Over Braves

The Sox enter Sunday’s series finale with the Atlanta Braves having split the first two games of the series. On Saturday, the White Sox hitters would overcome Cy Young Favorite Spencer Strider, handing him his 3rd loss of the season. They rattled off 5 runs on 8 hits, highlighted by Jake Burger’s 20th homerun.

The pitching matchup for Sunday would be Dylan Cease facing off against rookie Kolby Allard. Allard’s outing would not be very deep, just going an inning and two thirds. He’d give up 4 runs on 7 hits and only 1 strikeout. The scoring would start with Jake Burger hitting his 21st homerun in outstanding fashion. He hit a missile of a line drive that traveled 461 feet, scoring Andrew Vaughn. Both Tim Anderson & Luis Robert Jr. would add an RBI singles to further the lead. In the 5th inning, Andrew Bennintendi would hit an RBI single against Colin McHugh. McHugh would allow another run off a single from Gavin Sheets. The scoring would continue in the top of the 6th with Luis Robert Jr. pummeling his 27th home run of the year, while also being his 4th hit of the game, giving the Southsiders an 8-1 lead.

The pitching did an excellent job quieting the high-powered offense of the Braves. Dylan Cease would go 5 innings of 1 run baseball on 3 hits with 6 K’s & 3 BB’s. Reynaldo Lopez, Aaron Bummer, and Jesse Scholtens would all throw scoreless appearances. Although the SouthSider’s are likely to be sellers at the trade deadline, this is a step in the right direction to get back in the AL Central race.
