The Incredible Form of Serhou Guirassy
STUTTGART, Germany - Most goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues, most goals per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga, most non-penalty goals, these are just some of the stats that Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy is the leader in so far this domestic league season.
Signed permanently from Rennes over the summer, you would be forgiven for not knowing his name at the start of the season. Perhaps even more surprisingly, Guirassy has played in the Bundesliga before: he played 21 Bundesliga games for FC Köln in the seasons of 2016/17 and 2017/18, scoring four goals. Unfortunately for Guirassy, his time at Köln was marred by injuries and fitness problems.
Moving back to this season, Guirassy has been playing the best soccer of his career. He has been a prime poacher, scoring 13 goals in seven matches. There’s only been one game so far this season that Guirassy hasn’t scored in (ironically a 2-0 away victory against his former club Köln). For reference, the most goals Guirassy ever scored in a season before this was 11 (last season with Stuttgart). Granted, Guirassy is unlikely to carry on this incredible form, but for now, let’s enjoy what Guirassy has achieved so far.
