LONDON - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refused to comment on the Gunners' pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice. Arsenal has reportedly identified Rice as their top transfer priority for the summer.

Rice had an impressive 2022-23 season, making 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing four assists. He played a crucial role in helping West Ham win the UEFA Europa Conference League.

During an interview with Futblog FIFA, Arteta was asked about the club's interest in Rice, but he chose not to discuss players who are not currently part of Arsenal.

“I can't talk about players who are not in the club. I prefer not to say anything.”

Reports suggest that West Ham have already rejected two bids from Arsenal for Rice's services. The Hammers are reportedly demanding £100 million upfront for the 24-year-old midfielder. Arsenal's second bid, worth £90 million, was planned to be paid in several installments, according to The Daily Mail.

Arsenal is allegedly ready to match West Ham's asking price and intends to submit a final offer of £100 million, including add-ons. The Gunners will be motivated to secure the transfer quickly, as Premier League rivals Manchester City have also expressed interest in signing Rice. The competition from Manchester City could have potentially driven up the asking price for Rice, which has prompted Arsenal to act swiftly.
