Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is set to switch his jersey number ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Diaz, who joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022, was initially assigned the No. 23 jersey. However, for the upcoming season, he will wear the iconic No. 7 shirt.

Diaz has made a significant impact since joining Liverpool, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in 47 appearances. Unfortunately, his playing time was limited last season due to a six-month absence caused by a knee injury.

As the announcement of Diaz's new squad number came more than seven weeks after the release of Liverpool's new home kit, the club has confirmed that fans who had already purchased the kit with Diaz's name and old squad number will be entitled to a like-for-like exchange. In a gesture of appreciation, Diaz himself will personally reimburse the supporters for their new purchase.

The No. 7 jersey holds great significance at Liverpool, having been worn by legendary players such as Ian Callaghan, Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan and Luis Suarez. James Milner was the most recent player to wear the No. 7 shirt during his successful eight-year tenure at the club.

With Milner's departure, Diaz now has the opportunity to wear his preferred squad number, which he has previously sported for both Porto and Colombia.

Liverpool has also confirmed that new signing Alexis Mac Allister will wear the No. 10 shirt, a number previously worn by notable players such as Michael Owen, Philippe Coutinho, and Sadio Mane.
