La Liga: Real Madrid take a huge step towards the title, Atletico win it in the 99th minute
Match-day 32 of the La Liga brought us many interesting games, but with only 6 games left, it looks like “Los Blancos” are in route of winning another league title.
The first game of the match-day saw Real Sociedad tie 0-0 with Betis on Friday. There were four games on Saturday starting with Elche vs Mallorca which ended in a 3-0 win for Elche (Johan Mojica 42’, Pedro Bigas 58’, Kang-in Lee 81’). After Elche’s win, Alaves hosted Rayo Vallecano and beat them 1-0 with a goal from Joselu on the 64th minute. The surprise result of the day came next when Valencia played Osasuna in their home stadium Mestalla, but the home team lost 1-2 (Ezequiel Ávila 50’, Ante Budimir 74’, Carlos Soler 83’) which means they switched positions with Osasuna in the table. The last game of the day was Getafe vs Villareal, and the “Yellow Submarine” showed that it is still in great form after winning away from home 2-1 (Gerard Moreno 7’, Manu Trigueros 16’, Enes Unal 63’).
Sunday’s games started with a convincing 4-1 victory from Levante against Granada (Dani Gómez 17’, José Luis Morales 56’, Mickael Malsa 77’, Álex Collado 92’, Roberto Soldado 95’). Next up, Atletico de Madrid received Espanyol at the Wanda Metropolitano. The “Colchoneros” scored first with a goal by Yannick Carrasco in the 52nd minute, however, things would go up-hill after Geoffrey Kondogbia got sent off and Raúl de Tomas scored for Espanyol in the 74th minute. Atletico didn’t give up and kept fighting and after a penalty was awarded in the last play of the game, Yannick Carrasco stepped up and scored the 2-1 for his team in the 99th minute. After such an exciting game, Atlethic Club hosted Celta de Vigo, and Celta earned a convincing victory and won 2-0 (Iago Aspas 11’, Fran Beltrán 37’).
The most important game of the day was Sevilla vs Real Madrid. Real went to Sevilla unfocused, and in the spam of 5 minutes, they were loosing 0-2 after Ivan Rakitic and Erick Lamela scored in the 21st and 25th minute. However, in the second half Madrid tied the game after Rodrygo and Nacho scored in the 50th and 82nd minute. After tying the game, Madrid wanted to seal an epic comeback, and none other than the main man himself, Karim Benzema scored the winner in the 92nd minute, bringing Real Madrid a step closer to the La Liga title.
With this result Madrid are 15 points away from second place Barcelona, however Barça will play tomorrow against Cadiz FC and they also have another game in hand (against Rayo Vallecano on April 24th). Even if Barça win their next game and their other game in hand, they will still be 9 points away of Madrid, and with only 6 games till the end of the season, it’s looking like Real Madrid is in route to win yet another league title.
