Jota Sends Reds To Wembley

This afternoon was the second leg of the Carabao Cup Semi-Final between Liverpool and Arsenal. The first leg, played a week ago at Anfield was a scoreless draw. Arsenal were the happier of the two sides as they played the majority of the match with 10 men after Granit Xhaka’s red card in the 24th minute. Despite going down to 10 men, the Gunners were able to hold Liverpool scoreless. The Reds were not clinical enough up front and only managed one shot on target from 17 shots. Today’s Liverpool side was a different story. The Reds fired 3 shots on goal scoring two of them in a dominant performance at The Emirates. Both goals were scored by Liverpool’s Diogo Jota who has been one of Liverpool’s most dominant players this season. He has netted 14 goals in all competitions already this season. With Mo Salah and Sadio Mane out due to international duty, Jota needed to step up and did as he scored a brace to set up a Liverpool versus Chelsea cup final.

Liverpool youngsters Kaide Gordon and Caoimhin Kelleher made the starting XI this afternoon. Gordon showed flashes tonight and had a great opportunity to score what would have been his second senior goal for the Reds and Kelleher was able to keep the clean sheet in goal.

Liverpool have not appeared in the League Cup Final since 2016 when they lost to Manchester City, and have not won the competition since 2012. Despite their recent struggles in the competition, LFC has won the trophy 8 times which is tied with Manchester City for the most in history. Liverpool will look to make it 9 times on Sunday February 27 at the historic Wembley Stadium.
