Eddie Howe Hired as Newcastle United Manager

Former AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been hired as the Newcastle United manager.  Newcastle United were recently taken over by the Saudi Public Investment Fund for 305 million pounds, a deal that had come off the back of unrest from the Newcastle fans.  Newcastle currently sit second to last, having yet to win a game in all competitions this season.  The 43 year oldโ€™s last managerial position ended in 2020 when the Cherries were relegated out of the Premier League.

โ€œThis is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the playersโ€, said Howe. โ€œIt is a great honor to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family.โ€

Howeโ€™s managerial role at Bournemouth was an extensive one, with his most recent stint lasting from 2012 to 2020.  In that time, Howe was able to secure his team promotion in his first season. From there, the Cherries spent 2 seasons in the Championship before gaining promotion to the Premier League for the 2015-16 season  in which they just escaped relegation, finishing in 16th place.  His following year was much better, landing the club in a 9th place finish, followed up by a 12th place finish the following year. The 2018-19 season saw the club take a turn, finish 14th place unfortunately followed up by a relegation from the Premier League in the 2019-20 season, finishing in 18th place. Following the relegation Howe and the club came to a mutual agreement that he would step down from his role.

On November 8, 2021 Howe was announced as the next Newcastle United manager following the departure, via mutual agreement, of former manager Steve Bruce.Following the takeover on October  7th, Howe is the first staff appointment under the new management.  Howeโ€™s contract has been negotiated to last until 2024.
