Race for the Presidents Trophy
The race for the NHL Playoffs continues and so does the race for the Presidents trophy. The Presidents Trophy has a said “curse” to it, that anyone that wins it will not win a Stanely Cup. One thing the trophy does guarantee though is home-ice advantage for as long as the winner continues playing, which is no small thing.
The New York Rangers are atop the league, with 104 points and 39 regulation wins. The Carolina Hurricanes are right behind them at 101 points. The Dallas Stars trail the Rangers by one point but with three fewer regulation wins.
Moving to the Pacific Division, the Vancouver Canucks sit at 100 points with 40 regulation wins. We also have the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division with 103 points and 34 wins as well as the Florida Panthers with 99 points and 38 regulation wins.
It is very crowded up at the top of the league this season. The word on everyone’s lips these days is “parity,” with six teams at the 100-point mark this season and sitting within four points of each other at the top of the standings. Six more teams are in the 90s, and none of the division winners have been decided yet. It is a very close race to the top with just a few games left for each team this season.
The last few weeks of this season will be ones to watch out for. Between the wild card race and the Presidents trophy it will be a busy week for all teams in the NHL.
