Have the New Jersey Devils Lost Their Superstar Status?

The New Jersey Devils came out as one of the hottest team in the Metropolitan Division in the 2022-2023 season. Jack Hughes, Timo Meier, Luke Hughes, Nico Hischier, and so many more amazing players helped the Devils last year to be one of the top teams in the league. They made it to the second round of the NHL playoffs beating the New York Rangers and ultimately losing to the Carolina Hurricanes.

This season, the Devils have not been as good. Even though they have many of the same players that they did last year, they have been in a slump being 7th in their division. Jack Hughes in particular has been overturning pucks a lot more and scoring less. His slump has been causing Timo and Dawson Mercer to be carrying more of the weight. Hopefully now that he is returning from his injury he can help the team persevere and get back in their groove. They currently have a 10-5-0 record on the road and are 8-8-2 at home.

Overall the Devils have a lot of the season left to catch up. They have 40 games as of today to turn their season around. Ultimately it comes down to if they can piece together what they had last season. If they can recreate that superstar team we are all used to seeing then their season could be back on track.
