Alex Ovechkin Has Scored His 800th Career Goal

Tuesday night, December 13, 2022. The Washington Capitals faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. Capitals legend Alex Ovechkin has been chasing down the 800 career goal mark. He started the 2022-2023 season at 780, and tonight, he officially scored his twentieth goal, reaching the 800 mark.

0:24 into the game, Ovechkin scored his 798th career goal, assisted by John Carlson and Conor Sheary. Later in the first period, at 8:14, Ovechkin scored his 799th Career goal (power play), assisted by Sheary and Sonny Milano. In the third period, at 6:34, Ovechkin notches a hat trick for his 800th Creer goal, assisted by Anthony Mantha and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Ovechkin has officially joined the 800-goal club, being third on the all-time NHL goals list, right behind Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).


Game Recap

The Capitals beat the Blackhawks 7-3. This continues the Capitals' winning streak being their fifth straight win. 

Nic Dowd, Mantha, Trevor van Riemsdyk and Dmitry Orlov also scored. Sheary had two assists, and Charlie Lindgren made 26 stops. Capitals’ forward Dylan Strome played his first game back in Chicago since he signed his one-year contract with the Capitals in July.
