All-Star Weekend Changes

Jack Hughes has been ruled out for all the NHL All-Star events this upcoming weekend due to injury. Since Jack Hughes will not be participating, his teammate Jesper Bratt has been added in as a last-minute replacement for Hughes. Adding on to this, Mathew Barzal of the New York Islanders will replace Hughes for the skills competition on Friday. This will also be Barzal’s second time performing in the skills competition.

Even though Hughes won’t be competing, he is still expected to be In Toronto. Hughes will be co-captaining one of the All-Star teams for the 3-on-3 tournament alongside his brother Quinn Hughes. Elias Pettersson who is teammates with Quinn will be added to Team Hughes to even out the rosters. Executive Steve Mayer mentioned that if Hughes wasn’t eligible to play that he still wanted him to be in attendance and keep Team Hughes as is.

Hughes has been out since Jan. 5 with an upper body injury and does not have an expected date to return to action along with Connor Bedard who is out of the All-Star game with a broken jaw.
