Green Bay Packers Hire Jeff Hafley

According to Pete Thamel, a senior college football reporter for ESPN The Green Bay Packers have hired Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley.

Hafley was head coach of Boston College for four seasons (2020-2023). In his time the team made it to two bowl games, one in 2021 that got canceled and the other in the 2023 season. They won the bowl game in 2023, 23-14 against Sothern Methodist University. While Hafley did not call the team’s defense this season, it did not fare well, being close to or below the middle of the nation in all key stats.

Hafley does have prior experience coach at the NFL level as he was a defensive backs coach for multiple teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012-2013), Cleveland Browns (2014-2015), and the San Francisco 49ers (2016-2018). As a defensive backs coach, Hafley had three seasons where his teams were top ten in interceptions and four seasons where his team ranked in the league's bottom half in interceptions. While interceptions are not the only stat to assess Hafley with as a defensive backs coach, they are a pretty important statistic for that group.

It will definitely be interesting to see if Hafley can get this Packers defense to play up to their highest potential next season.
