The New England Patriots have found their replacement for Offensive Coordinator Bill O’Brien. The team is hiring former Cleveland Browns Offensive Coordinator Alex Van Pelt. The team interviewed 11 different candidates prior to their decision.

Van Pelt has coached in the NFL since 2006 and has held a number of various positions with a number of different teams. Van Pelt has been the Offensive Coordinator for the Browns since 2020. Prior to that, Van Pelt spent time as the Quarterbacks coach for the Cincinnati Bengals (2018-2019), Green Bay Packers (2014-2017), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010-2011), and Buffalo Bills (2008-2009).

Van Pelt was also the Offensive Coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2009, his only prior season serving as an Offensive Coordinator.

Van Pelt joins new Head Coach Jerod Mayo’s staff and a struggling Patriots offense who has had three different offensive play callers in the last three seasons.

The Patriots get a tenured coach with a lot of experience working with the quarterback position, which could prove to be extremely helpful to the team that is expected to take a quarterback with the 3rd overall pick in this years draft.
