Julian Love is headed to Seattle
New York, NY (PSF)— On Friday afternoon Julian Love posted on his Instagram an appreciative post to Giants fans as the news came out that the former New York Giants DB would sign a two-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. The deal reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter is a two-year, $12 million deal. A bittersweet moment for all parties, but it seems that Love’s great play has paid off with another contract and opportunity to play in the NFL. The Giants drafted Love with the 109th overall pick in the 2019 draft out of Notre Dame. He would ultimately spend four seasons as a Giant. Love would be named a team captain this past season as he became a fan favorite over his time and a notable DB for the team.
With the surprise success of the Giants, most of the focus this off season was on retaining Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, which led to many never realizing that Love was a free agent. The Giants have made moves this offseason like signing WR Paris Campbell, re-signing OLB Jihad Ward and WR Darius Slayton and signing ILB Bobby Okereke. The Giants have also traded for TE Darren Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders. The Giants have made moves to improve the roster and keep the momentum strong going into next season. Love most likely wasn’t made a priority because of the cap space they had after the big contract they gave Daniel Jones.
With the team making moves and a fan favorite gone the question was, who would replace Love at DB, who was playing at a high level. Well on Monday afternoon it was reported that the Giants are signing CB Leonard Johnson to a three-year contract. Leonard Johnson is an undrafted free agent coming off a torn ACL suffered before last year’s draft, which makes him eligible to be sign as undrafted. It would seem that Johnson was given a workout for the Giants, where he really impressed Head Coach Brain Daboll and got Johnson signed.
The Giants have found Love’s replacement in Johnson and now will join the likes of CB Adoree’ Jackson and Xavier McKinney to give the Giants a solid secondary. Most Giants fans have no idea what Johnson is capable of, since last time he saw the field was at the college level for Duke. Once again a really bitter sweet moment as Love moves on to hopefully great success. Same can be said for the New York Giants who are making moves this offseason.
