Will Davante Adams Be The Next Randy Moss and Antonio Brown?
Davante Adams, is quite possibly one of the best wide receivers in football currently still playing. He had spent a decent amount of time in Green Bay where he established himself as one of the greatest wide receivers of the 2010s.
He and Aaron Rodgers took the league by storm and got themselves five pro bowls in the process. All his hard work with the Packers ended up with him getting a huge pay day with Las Vegas after an entire summer of fans asking will he or won’t he leave Green Bay?
Instead Adams decided to get out of Title Town and decided to test his luck at the slot machines and craps tables. The contract he signed was for five years and $140 million. This signing put him back together with his college teammate Derek Carr. He would also be joining talents such as Josh Jacobs, Hunter Renfrow, Maxx Crosby and Darren Waller. This all seemed like a match made in heaven where the Raiders were going to be the next powerhouse in the AFC.
As the saying goes “Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” This is what the Raiders are saying right now because what looked like it was going to be a dream is turning out to be more like the script for the movie “The Hangover.” The Raiders currently have a 1-4 record. Devante Adams has not been the problem of the team however. As far as on the field, the man has already scored five touchdowns and got 414 yards.
Him losing his cool and pushing the camera man does not help his situation at all. However, on the field he’s been helpful to the Raiders offense. But what we are seeing right now looks like it might be a good ole fashion case of history repeating itself. Look at it like this; the Raiders organization has done this twice before where the Raiders managed to get the best wideout in the league at the time and for it to not go according to plans at all.
The two other names being Randy Moss and Antonio Brown. Yes, Moss got traded from the Vikings, and Brown never played a regular season game with the Raiders. However, the two of them didn’t have a good time in Oakland but ended up doing much better with other teams.
Moss ended up getting traded to the New England Patriots where he had the greatest season we have ever seen by a wide receiver, thanks in part to Tom Brady aka “the goat,” and Brown won a Super Bowl with Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brady is indeed in the twilight of his career, so Adams is definitely not getting traded to Tampa during this season. However, let's say theoretically if this season and next season goes bad for the Raiders it’s not impossible to say that maybe Adams will get traded to a team with a much better quarterback like the Bills or the Chiefs and take the league by storm once more.
Yes, the Bills have Diggs and he is more than a solid number one so that one is probably less likely. However, the Chiefs lost Tyreek Hill during the offseason as Miami came by and got their man. Also Patrick Mahomes has a huge contract that Kansas City has to deal with but the point is they don’t have a solid number one and just imagine what Mahomes and Adams can do together?
If that happens, that could possibly be another Randy Moss to New England situation where Adams and Mahomes can work some serious magic together.
All of this is just a theory and it’s too soon to tell but, it’s not completely impossible. The Raiders have a history of getting the best wide receiver in the league at the time just for things to not work out and then they leave and have glory elsewhere.
It’s happened twice before, who's to say that it’s not going to happen for a third time? But right now, The Raiders need to figure something out and fast to save what remains of their 2022-23 season.
