Week 13: Giants-Dolphins Recap
After a gritty defensive performance last week in their win against the Eagles, The New York Giants lost to the red-hot Miami Dolphins 20-9 in a flat performance. Both sides of the ball looked lethargic for Big Blue, with some concerning stats encapsulating that nature.
OFFENSE
The Giants are tied with the Texans for the fewest offensive touchdowns in the NFL with 18. The Texans are 2-10.
Will Hernandez allowed two sacks yesterday, bringing him up to six on the season, which is the second-most among all NFL guards (per PFF).
The Giants have not thrown a touchdown to a receiver or running back since the Panthers game. That game was played over a month ago.
Andrew Thomas continues to be the lone bright spot on the brutally assembled Giants offensive line. He received an 85.3 pass-blocking grade, which is fifth against all tackles. He also has 2 pressures allowed in the past two games.
The Giants have averaged 243 yards per game past three games. This simply cannot happen, as the offense continues to struggle to put up points.
The Giants have averaged 10.6 points per game past three games.
The Giants have been outscored 52-0 in the last two minutes of the first half this season, by far the worst in the NFL.
DEFENSE
The Dolphins had 16 QB pressures yesterday, while the Giants only had 6 (per NextGen).
The Dolphins had 8 QB hits, while the Giants only had 3. This continues to persist on defense, and nobody besides personnel is completely at fault.
CB James Bradberry has allowed 8 touchdown receptions this season, including 2 yesterday vs. Miami. This is the most in the NFL. He only let up 3 touchdowns all of last season.
Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa went 30-41, 244 yards, and two touchdowns. This is his fourth game this season with a passer rating of 100+. No other quarterback has more than two this season, per CBS Sports.
The entire secondary allowed 20 completions for 169 yards and both Dolphins touchdowns through the air. Very concerning.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
With QBs Daniel Jones and Mike Glennonβs statuses looking bleak for next Sunday, newly acquired QB Jake Fromm will be bracing for his first start against the Chargers in LA. Fromm was drafted in the 5th round of the 2020 draft by Buffalo. Iβd imagine all Giants fans are hoping for a Mike White-esque performance, although based off their recent offensive executions, that may be a tall order.
The Giants will be practicing in Tucson, Arizona this week, a plan organized by HC Joe Judge prior to the season. This team bonding exercise might be too little, too late for the G-men, with nearly all of the personnelβs status in question and team morale presumably low.
The Giants sit at 4-8, bottom of the NFC East, in the midst of yet another lost season.
