The Quarterback Market is about to Skyrocket

Cincinnati, Ohio (PSF) - We are gearing up for the 2023 NFL offseason and with that comes extensions for third year players still on rookie contracts. The three biggest names expected to get an extension are Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts.

Justin Herberts talent and potential alone will be the reason he’s getting a new deal, granted he hasn’t even come close to accomplishing what Burrow and Hurts have. All three of these players extensions are expected to exceed $50 million per year on their new deals. The two quarterbacks currently scheduled to have the biggest cap hits in 2023 are Deshaun Watson at $54 million and Dak Prescott at $49 million.

We can all pretty much agree that Burrow, Herbert and Hurts are all better than Watson and Prescott. Now the question should be who gets their deal done first and exceeds Watsons contract. Usually when you have a few good players due for an extension that play the same position, the players agents wait to see who gets paid first just so they can exceed one another by a couple million dollars.

It is good to see these young quarterbacks who are having success get paid earlier in their careers, compared to how it used to be when players nearly played their entire rookie contract with no extension. Injuries have played a big role in this and overall it’s always good for a player to earn a big pay day.
