The New York Giants get positive grade after 2023 NFL Draft
With the 2023 NFL draft over, the media and fans are finally able to give their thoughts and personal grades to each team based on that team’s choices during the draft. This year’s draft seems to be different as that there is no real losers of the draft this year. Besides Jalen Carter going to the Philadelphia Eagles and Bryce Young going number one overall to the Carolina Panthers, there was no star player that all teams were craving for. The New York Giants benefited the most from the draft based on their draft grades from multiple different media outlets.
Vinnie Iyer from the “Sportingnews” gave the Giants a grade of an “A”. Iyer’s reasoning was because of General Manger Joe Schoen being strategic about their needs. Chad Reuter for NFL.com gave the Giants an “A-” and highlighted their first pick CB Deonte Banks who satisfies their need for another young defensive back.
With the defending NFC Champions in the Eagles coming out the NFC East, the Giants needed to have a good draft and pick players that can fill in holes in their roster. With a total of seven draft picks, the Giants drafted:
CB Deonte Banks Maryland (No. 24)
C John Michael Schmitz Minnesota (No. 57)
WR Jalin Hyatt Tennessee (No. 73)
RB Eric Gray Oklahoma (No. 172)
DB Tre Hawkins III Old Dominion (No. 209)
DT Jordon Riley Oregon (No. 243)
S Gervarrius Owens Houston (No. 254)
The Giants are in a good place right now with several offseason acquisition, and now a good draft class. The front office cannot become complacent, as the NFC East seems to get better every year. The front office next move should be to focus all their attention on running back Saquon Barkley who intends to not sign the franchise tag. Barkley is the Giants offense and without him there is no way the Giants can improve next season. The NFL is a never-ending cycle and with a good draft the Giants should be optimistic about next season.
