Orlando, Florida (PSF) - With the NFL Draft over the focus of the front office goes back to signing whatever remaining free agents there are. One player that is at the top of the list for the New York Giants is Saquon Barkley.
New York Giants general manager, Joe Schoen is adament on keeping Saquon in New York who has been going through a list of important tasks over the past few months. These tasks include:
Β· Make a long-term contract with Daniel Jones.
Β· Keep Saquon Barkley off from the open market.
Β· Add affordable pieces in free agency.
Β· Find building blocks in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Upon concluding most of these impossible tasks, Schoen is going to try doing his next mission, which is to get Saquon to sign a long-term contract with their team. According to a conversation with Barkleyβs representative, they would make a deal after the draft is done.
The RB is set to earn around $10.091 million on the franchise tag. The sides have until July 17 of this year to come into a multiyear deal, or else Barkley is about to play during 2023 on the one-year tender. Making the extension of his contract might be the better choice for Barkley so he could keep playing with a good team and he could ask for a bigger payment.
The player is yet to sign the franchise tag and canβt participate in the offseason program until he does so or gets a new contract. With the talks between Barkley representatives and Joe Schoen happening in upcoming days, the deal could get done soon.
