Saquon Barkley injured his ankle in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, where he scored two touchdowns that would help the New York Giants in a 21-point comeback for their first win of the season. Of the 67 offensive snaps, Barkley was a part of 66 with the last being when the high ankle injury occurred.

In the following game against the San Francisco 49ers, Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell would take over the reins at running back for Barkley. Breida carried the ball 4 times for 17 yards and a touchdown, as Brightwell also had 4 carries but for only 5 yards. Add in 2 carries by quarterback Daniel Jones and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, the Giants only ran the ball a total of 11 times against the 49ers for only 29 yards. The lack of a running game and trailing in the game from the second quarter on, made for 35 passing opportunities for Daniel Jones.

In just that game alone, it is obvious how important Barkley is just being in the lineup. He hopes that for this Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, he will be able to suit up. Barkley said, “The reality of it is that if I can go — if my body is telling me to go out there and play — then, yeah, that is what I’d like to do. Unfortunately, Barkley has to truly prove that he can really go as Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll, already listed him as Doubtful for the Monday night game. Daboll did say however, that Barkley would be a gametime decision.

Barkley has been limited in practice from Thursday to Saturday, providing him with a slightly higher chance to play. If he ends up not being able to play, Barkley will then set his sights to return in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins.
