Chiefs, Dolphins agree on blockbuster deal to send Tyreek Hill to Miami
The short-lived rollercoaster has ended. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported early Wednesday afternoon that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to send star receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in a blockbuster deal.
The Chiefs will receive five draft picks: a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29), a 2nd-round pick (No. 50), a 4th-round pick, and 4th- and 6th-round picks in the 2023 draft.
Upon the finalized trade terms, the Dolphins have also agreed to give their new star receiver a 4-year, $120 million extension, including $72.2 million guaranteed.
The Dolphins and New York Jets were reportedly the two destinations vying for Hill’s services. However, Hill’s South Florida residency and improved roster likely led to his preference to be traded to Miami.
With Hill in the fold, the Dolphins now add a dynamic playmaker to pair with budding star Jaylen Waddle to create perhaps the most electric wide receiver tandem in the NFL.
Hill is the crown jewel of an impressive offseason that has seen the Dolphins acquire several impact players for new head coach Mike McDaniel.
An aggressive move of this proportion indicates that the Dolphins believe they have the pieces to compete in a loaded AFC.
While quarterback Tua Tagovailoa must improve to make the Dolphins’ vision a reality, the team has taken steps to ensure that they will be a power player in the conference for years to come.
