NY Jets, Dolphins in serious talks to acquire Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill
This morning has provided yet another twist in one of the wildest offseasons in recent memory.
ESPN’s lead NFL insider Adam Schefter reported early Wednesday morning that the NY Jets and Miami Dolphins have emerged as front-runners to acquire star receiver Tyreek Hill after contract extension talks between the Chiefs and Hill stalled.
Armed with multiple first-round picks, including five selections in the first 100 picks and an abundance of cap space, the Jets can pull off a blockbuster deal for the six-time Pro Bowl receiver.
The offseason has seen the Jets shore up holes on their roster with the signings of Laken Tomlinson, D.J. Reed, Jordan Whitehead, among others. However, the team noticeably chose not to spend significant funds at the receiver position.
Rather than overpay for a B-list receiver, the general manager Joe Douglas opted to structure their contracts to provide the team with the flexibility to make a splash on the trade market if the right opportunity arose.
The team was reportedly in on a potential trade for Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley before he was handed an indefinite suspension from the NFL.
While the Jets will have to pay a hefty price and award Hill with a lucrative contract extension, the speedy wide receiver is a perfect scheme fit for offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur’s offense and would expedite Zach Wilson’s development.
Ultimately, the winner of the Hill sweepstakes will come down to which team he prefers, potentially giving the Dolphins an advantage since their roster is more ready-made to win.
With a decision expected to arrive by this afternoon, we have no choice but to wait and see where one of the NFL’s premier talents will end up.
