Week 2 Offensive recap

The Tennessee Titans are coming off a huge week 2 win against the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime for a final score of 27-24. The offense was good as quarterback Ryan Tannehill was efficient has he completed 20 of his 24 pass attempts for 246 yards and one touchdown and added a 12 yard rushing touchdown to add to his day. The running game was solid with leading rusher Derrick Henry having 25 rush attempts to put up 80 yards and finding the endzone. Although Derrick Henry’s had just 3.2 yard per carry (YPG). His teammate rookie running back Tyjae Spears averaged 6.2 yards per carry (YPG) on 8 attempts and had 49 rushing yards is showing the Titans that the third-round pick is the the real deal. On the receiving side wide receiver Treylon Burks lead all Titans receivers in yards with three receptions for 76 yards. Tennessee’s only receiving touchdown was caught by wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for a 4 yard pass.

O-Line vs D-line

With a tough week 3 matchup against a good Cleveland Browns defensive line the Titans are going to have to lean on their offensive line to play well against two top tier defensive ends in Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith who both are coming into the game hungry as they have just one combined sack together. Offensive lineman Andre Dillard and Chris Hubbard who are assigned the duties of Smith and Garrett have been solid through the first two weeks of the season. This is the first test to see what they are made of going against two all-pro defensive ends. This matchup might be the difference in the game and could ether benefit the Titans in getting a win or could be the reason their offensive day is ruined. Stopping two of the best at their position is difficult, but if they can contain them, Tennessee could walk out of Cleveland with a win.

The Tennessee run game is going to be an important part of the offense in week 3. If they are able to execute the run game for success against Cleveland it makes Ryan Tannehill job easier and opens up the play action pass. The Browns are going to have to deal with both Titans running backs as star running back Derrick Henry and rookie running back Tyjae Spears have been a solid duo. The rookie running back is averaging 6.9 yards a carry in the young season and has been quite the surprise for the Tennessee offense. When the Titans run game is working it is very hard to stop them offensively and is certainly a key for a win in Cleveland.

Prediction

Going into Cleveland isn’t always an easy task. After seeing star running back Nick Chubb go down with a season ending injury in week 2 and the play of Cleveland’s quarterback Deshaun Watson is questionable as he is playing like an average quarterback at best after signing a massive 5 year 230 million dollar deal last season is going into a game without one of his best skills player. For the Tennessee Titans who are looking to pick up a second consecutive win and is going up against a very good defensive unit in the Browns, will look to the offensive line to step up and protect the quarterback and create holes to let the running game get going. If they are successful in the execution it create a massive headache for the the Cleveland defense. Both teams are looking for their second victory on the year and the Titans are the team to come away with a win 24-20.
