3 Players that the Packers Should Re-Sign This Offseason
After an amazing season that ended in the Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers, the Green Bay Packers look ahead to their offseason, where they have some major decisions to make.
Currently, the Packers are the youngest team in football and could get younger if they decide not to resign some pending free agents. However, opting not to resign a few veterans may hurt the team’s progression. Due to the fact, they would have to draft younger players and get them up to speed if they want to stay young. That is why it is much smarter to resign some of the veterans on their team that are still playing well. With that being said, these are the three Packers that make the most sense to resign this offseason.
1. Darnell Savage Jr., Defensive Back

Over the past five seasons. Packers safety Darnell Saaveg Jr. has been one of the better players at the position when healthy. Savage has accumulated nine interceptions, two forced fumbles, one sack and has 302 combined tackles in 69 career starts. Additionally, he only has one season where he allowed more than three touchdowns to be scored on him. That's some elite-level play.
The only downside to Savage is he has had some injury issues as a pro. Through five seasons, he has missed a total of 15 games, being completely out/inactive for 11 of them and not a full participant in four of them. Savage missing that amount of games is detrimental to the defense. However, when he is on the field, his production can’t be denied. That is why his dropped interception in the NFC divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers should not be his last memory as a Packer.
2. Keisean Nixon, Cornerback, Special Teamer

Cornerback and kickoff return specialist Keisean Nixon is another play that deserves to get resigned. Nixon joined the Packers in 2022 from the Las Vegas Raiders, and has helped them with his kickoff return abilities. Over the past two seasons, Nixon has led all kickoff returners in yards with a total of 1.792 (1,009 yards in 2022 and 782 yards in 2023), earning First Team All-Pro nods in both of his seasons in Green Bay.
Alongside his kickoff return success, Nixon also contributes at cornerback. While he doesn’t see the field much as a cornerback, he has still gathered two interceptions and forced one fumble. That shows he can create impactful plays no matter what position he is playing on the field.
3. A.J. Dillon, Running Back

Running back A.J. Dillon is still fairly young and durable at age 25. This is beneficial to the Packers since his counterpart Aaron Jones will be thirty in 2024. In Dillon’s time with the Packers, he has totaled 3.191 scrimmage tards ( 2428 rushing yards and 763 receiving yards) and 18 total touchdowns( 16 rushing and two receiving). Those are some nice numbers for someone who is meant to be the bruising running back. Given Dillon’s his production warrants a contract t extension from the Packers.
