The San Francisco 49ers are heading back to the Super Bowl after defeating the Detroit Lions in a miraculous comeback 34-31 at Levi’s Stadium. The 49ers will head to Las Vegas in two weeks to face off once again, the Kansas City Chiefs.

This game looked very one-sided due to the Lions having a 24-7 lead by the end of halftime which came from three rushing touchdowns by receiver Jameson Williams, and running backs Jahmyr Gibbs, and David Montgomery each having one as well. The 49ers got on the board with a two-yard rushing touchdown by running back Christian McCaffrey which who he was held to less than 30 yards rushing in the first half, so this shows how good the Lions defense was doing in the 1st half.

The Lions looked like they had all the momentum and win after one half of football, but the second half was not the same for the Detroit Lions, as during the second half on the opening drive the Lions went for it on fourth down and did not convert which led to a 49ers touchdown in courtesy of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk having 2 marvelous catches in that drive including a tip drill 51 yard reception. The following drive for Detroit was a one play stunner as Jahmyr Gibbs fumbled the football at the San Francisco 25-yard line and was recovered by defensive lineman Arik Armstead. Following the turnover, the 49ers drove down the short field and tied the game with a Christian McCaffrey rushing touchdown to kill the 17-point deficit from the start of the half.

Detroit came back onto the field on offense and went three and out which was a big turning point in the game because after that the 49ers drove down the field and got kicker Jake Moody to sink the most important field goal that game and give the 49ers their first lead of the game in the 4th quarter.

The Lions once again was stopped on 4th down on an incomplete pass from Jared Goff, and in the pace of the game altered how things were going for Detroit. The 49ers capitalized and drove down the field and scored another rushing touchdown by RB Elijah Mitchell to put the 49ers up by 10 points.

The Lions have been known in the regular season and past two playoff matchups to go for it on 4th down a lot and usually have success on that, but they didn’t convert when it mattered most only going one for three on 4th down conversions which was a passing touchdown from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams which put them down by three, but it was too late as the 49ers milked the clock and won the game 34-31 sending them to their second Super Bowl in the last five years.

The 49ers will have to play better if they want to get revenge on the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that defeated them in their last Super Bowl appearance. They will square off on February 11.
