Patriots Safety Devin Mccourty Announces retirement
Foxborough, Massachusetts (PSF) — Patriots safety Devin McCourty, who is a three time Super Bowl Champion, has officially announced his retirement on Friday. After spending his entire thirteen year career in New England, the 35 year old safety has called it a career.
McCourty was drafted 27th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Rutgers as a cornerback getting a Pro Bowl and All-Pro nods in his rookie season. During the 2012 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired Aquib Talib. This led McCourty to move to free safety along side Patrick Chung. In 2018, Devin McCourty teamed up with his twin brother Jason and the duo helped the Patriots win their sixth Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams. The McCourty twins would be the first twins to play and win the Super Bowl on the same team.
McCourty finished his career with two Pro Bowls, and three All-Pros. McCourty had over 900 tackles as well as 35 interceptions, with two of those being returned for touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if McCourty gets inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame, at Patriot Place.
