opinion: Patrick Mahomes 2nd Super Bowl Cements HIM as 2nd Greatest Quarterback Ever
Kansas City, Missouri (PSF) — After a thrilling Super Bowl 57 in Phoenix, Arizona, the Kansas City Chiefs took home their third Super Bowl in franchise history and second in three years.
Patrick Mahomes earned his second Super Bowl and second Super Bowl MVP, making him the third player in NFL history to win NFL MVP and the Super Bowl in the same season. What Mahomes has done in his five years of starting at quarterback in the NFL is something we have never seen before, even with Tom Brady. Since Patrick Mahomes has been the starter for the Chiefs, they have gone to the conference championship and hosted it every season. The Chiefs have also gone to three Super Bowls in that span.
Patrick Mahomes’ two League MVPs and two Super Bowl MVPs in only six years of starting has me pegging him the second best quarterback all-time, only behind Tom Brady.
In his recent MVP season, Mahomes had the most passing yards and touchdowns with 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. He also posted a 67.1% completion percentage and 105.2 passer rating.
Mahomes also had the most total yards of all time this season. His career stats so far rack up to 24,241 passing yards, 192 TDs, 49 interceptions on a 66% completion percentage and 105.7 passer rating.
There might be counterarguments to this because of stats, but if stats were the end-all-be-all, then LeBron James would be unanimously the greatest basketball player of all time. Patrick Mahomes is only 27 years old and has accomplished more than most Hall of Fame players have in their entire careers. Patrick Mahomes has the chance to catch Brady’s seven rings, with the way his team is set up for the future.
The Chiefs are favorites to win it all next season. Can they become the first team since the 2003-2004 Patriots to repeat?
