Looking Ahead to Free Agents Who Won’t Return
With the 2021 NFL regular season coming to a close, there’s 18 teams who will not make the playoffs, in turn, ending their season. With their season ending comes the wild time of free agency. This upcoming free agency will be just as wild as the others as NFL stars will be looking to restructure their contract, or go get a bag somewhere else. Among all the free agents that will be available, these are just a couple that I believe will not return to their team:
Allen Robinson
After a very underwhelming 2021 season, I believe Allen Robinson will be leaving the Chicago Bears unless there is a clear coaching change. Matt Nagy has done a poor job with this Bears team who, just a couple of years ago, were a double doink field goal away from beating the Eagles in a wildcard matchup.
Chris Godwin
Before he went down with a season ending ACL injury, Chris Godwin was Bradys number one receiver with just over 1,100 yards, leading the Bucs still, even though he hasn’t played in 3 weeks. Godwin proved that he could ball while being, debatably, the third best receiver on a stacked Buccaneers offense. NFL managers said even though Godwin suffered that terrible injury, he could still manage to sign a big deal come this offseason due to his astonishing play on the field.
Melvin Gordon III
With the emergence of rookie Javonte Williams, Melvin Gordon will be interested in finding a new team. It was a running back by committee kind of season for the Denver Broncos and while Gordon didn’t have a bad season, Williams just had a great season for a rookie and I think Denver will lean more towards Williams rather than Gordon because of the production at such a young age (21).
Cedrick Wilson
After Michael Gallup got injured in week one, Wilson was tasked with the role of coming in and replacing him in that explosive Cowboys offense. He had his best year in his young career with over 400 yards and four touchdowns with still one more regular season game to play. While he will not be an elite WR1 for a team, he could definitely offer some support for a team that needs help at the wide receiver position.
