Jets vs Bills Overview
The Jets are matching up with another super bowl contender this week in Buffalo against the Bills. This game will likely decide who wins the AFC East between the Bills and Patriots. Which is the first time Buffalo has a chance to do so at home since 1995. The Bills have proven to have one of the toughest defenses in the league and it showed in their last matchup at Metlife Stadium, defeating the Jets 45-17. Both Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis both had over 100 yards receiving. Stefon Diggs hauled in 8 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown. While Gabriel Davis had 3 receptions for 105 yards. This was the halfway point on the season as the Jets offense was still trying to find its identity.
This was the short term of the Mike White era, as Zach Wilson was still out with an injury. This should look like a completely different game (good and bad), especially with prime target receivers for Wilson out with injury. Such as Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, and Jamison Crowder. Once again look for the Jets to lean on the running game with Zach Wilsons only main targets left who are Keelan Cole and Braxton Berrios. It is worth noting that both receivers have held their own. Especially Braxton Berrios with perhaps his best game all season, with 8 receptions for 65 yards and both a rushing and receiving touchdown.
The run game has been very strong when rookie running back Michael Carter is healthy. Fans would love to see the Jets get the run game going, which we have not seen in full form yet this season. If the Jets continue to lean on the run game and have success. Then that will open up the offensive scheme for Zach Wilson who had one of his best performances of the season against the Buccaneers, going 19/33 for 234 yards and a touchdown. His decision-making and perfectly thrown balls had Jets fans excited to watch a QB for the first time since Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2015 or Mark Sanchez in 2009-2010.
The Jet's secondary will need an improved performance compared to the last matchup. Bryce Hall has been having another great season and has improved tremendously. He currently has 65 solo tackles which are ranked 4th best in the NFL. As well as ranked 2nd in the league in forced incompletions with 17. Teams have not shied away from the impressive young corner. Also, we have been seeing an increased amount of big plays from rookie corner Brandin Echols out of Kentucky. Hopefully, the Jets can build off a strong performance from last week and give the Bills a tough time in a win that is much needed for Buffalo.
