Lions Unveil New Alternate Helmet for 2023 Season

Detroit, Michigan (PSF) - A tradition that has been in the NFL ever since the start of the league has been the alternate helmet craze. Every time a team is in the NFL they go through several changes as the years go on. This time the team that decided to do their change on their helmets is the Detroit Lions. They decided to go with a blue-shelled piece of protective equipment featuring the clubโ€™s classic logo used during the 1960s. This change was greeted with good reviews from the public, embracing their past and the present at the same time.

The helmet is the Lionโ€™s first alternate shell painted in a color other than silver since they donned a blue helmet for a short time in the 1950s. The Lionโ€™s logo has two vertical stripes, one blue and one silver, on the sides of the helmet, with a silver facemask attached to the shell. This was the symbol of the Lions when they were playing in the 1960s, but never wore the emblem on the teamโ€™s helmets until now.

The team teased the alternate helmet with a photoshoot centered around a 1973 Ford Mustang Shelby on Mach 1st, which belonged to the late Van Patrick, a former Lions radio commentator from the 1950s until his passing in 1974.

The Lionโ€™s has used elements of this logo plenty of times in recent years, it was used to represent the Lions late owner. They had their colors with connection with their history and making sure that their helmets have symbols of their history while playing the games. Itโ€™s a really interesting approach as the time goes on.

The Lionโ€™s have announced that they would debut their new helmet on the upcoming Money Night Football match-up versus the Las Vegas Raiders in week eight. There is also talk that they will wear the helmet again in week 18 versus the Minnesota Vikings.
