Josh Dobbs Saves the Day for Vikings
Josh Dobbs was acquired on the day of the NFL Trade Deadline last week from the Arizona Cardinals to the Minnesota Vikings after Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending injury in last week's game. Dobbs had only been in Minnesota for five days before the Vikings game on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Jaren Hall, had been taking all the QB1 snaps throughout the week and started the game for the Vikings before suffering a concussion in the first quarter. With Hall out, the Vikings had no choice but to have Dobbs start at QB with little to no knowledge of the offense.
Head coach, Kevin OβConnell, was in Dobbs's ear over the helmet headset the entire game literally explaining plays to Dobbs. Dobbs finished with 158 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown. With 22 seconds left in the game, Dobbs was able to find Brandon Powell in the endzone to take the lead 31-28 securing the Vikings the win.
The Vikings have had many major losses to injuries with their star wide receiver, Justin Jefferson out, running back Cam Akers, and wide receiver K.J. Osborn all out. Even with remotely zero knowledge of the offense, many starting players out, and a totally new atmosphere, Josh Dobbs was able to take the Vikings to victory and still keep them in potential playoff contention.
