Seahawks trade Wilson to Denver for massive compensation
As the first week of free agency starts, the Seattle Seahawks have traded Russell Wilson for a massive haul of picks and three players.
The news came from NFL sports writer Adam Schefter today with the Seahawksโ star quarterback heading to the Denver Broncos if Wilson approves.
The Seattle Seahawks also traded a fourth-round pick with Wilson in exchange for Quarterback Drew Lock, Tight end Noah Fant, Defensive lineman Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and a fifth-round pick. The first-round picks would be in this year and next yearโs NFL drafts. The second and fifth-round picks would likely be in this yearโs NFL draft.
Wilson has been a nine-time Pro Bowler, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year (2020), NFL passing leader in 2017, and won the Super Bowl against the Peyton Manning-led Broncos. He is also widely regarded as one of the best dual-threat quarterback in NFL history.
The Wilson-era in Seahawks is now over with the team looking to rebuild in free agency and the NFL draft. The Seahawks currently have the ninth pick in the NFL draft and could draft Wilsonโs replacement or Jermain Johnson from Florida State.
It was a shocking move with NFL players reacting to the news. Good or bad, the Wilson trade โshake upโ the league with the Broncos in the mix in the playoff picture and the Seahawks looking to rebuild and contend for the Super Bowl.
The question for the Seahawks is how they going to approach this NFL draft and contend again for the playoffs. Who will be the starting quarterback for the Seahawks? Will Seahawks make more offseason moves? There are going questions the Seahawks would have to move forward for this franchise as the NFL offseason continues.
