Free Agent DT Ndamukong Suh indicates Time with Bucs is over
In a not-so-shocking turn of events, veteran free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh hinted that his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is coming to an end. Via ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Suh appeared on ESPN 2’s NFL Live, stating “it looks like the Bucs are out of the picture.”
The five-time pro bowler spent three years with Tampa Bay, all on one-year contracts. In 2020 when the Bucs won the Super Bowl, Suh was one of several key pieces on the team’s defense alongside stars such as Devin White, Lavonte David, and Shaq Barrett.
Since entering the league in 2010, the three-time all-pro defensive player has missed just two games, possibly opening up questions as to why Tampa never gave Suh a three-year contract. But looking into the situation in Tampa Bay, resigning then free-agent linebackers Lavonte David and Shaq Barrett to bigger contracts last season after winning the Super Bowl were simply bigger situations to address, not to mention this year’s signing of former Bears defensive linemen Akeim Hicks.
Suh, who is now 35, says he still wants to play in the NFL. He isn’t the player he was in his prime, but can still be a meaningful pick-up for some teams.
