Frank Clark Rumors Ramping Up for the Chiefs
A Frank Clark reunion might be in the Kansas City Chiefs’ near future. After Clark, a former Chief was released by the Broncos after only recording two tackles and zero sacks in the two games he played, Clark is rumored to be a potential target for multiple teams. Clark took a pay cut and his contract is only worth the veteran minimum of $841,000, leaving teams very interested in picking him up. Of all these teams, the Chiefs seem to be the frontrunners.
Clark’s stint with the Broncos is not symbolic of his career as an edge rusher. He had far more success with the Chiefs in his four seasons with the team, earning three Pro Bowl bids and winning two titles. Between the 2019-22 seasons he posted 127 tackles (32 for loss), 23.5 sacks, 59 quarterback hits, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Even though the Chiefs could not come to an agreement with the 30-year-old edge rusher over the offseason, these previous stats have certainly intrigued the Chiefs’ front office, especially when the contract is so cheap.
The Chiefs’ front office are not the only ones interested in Clark’s return. Players and fans alike are excited for the possible reunion as well, and they are doing everything in their power to bring the former Chief back home. Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones and a few fans had an interaction in relations to the potential signing over social media. After Frank Clark commented on hoping to be picked up, the interaction began.
Now, it is unsure whether the Chiefs will actually pick up Clark after his recent release, but these are multiple indicators that point to its probability. The front office, players and fans alike all want the signing to happen, and a familiarity with his previous home could certainly lead to an agreement between Clark and the Chiefs organization. One could only speculate that this signing would only make the 5-1 team better, further cementing their chances at a second straight championship. Because of this, do not be surprised when Kansas City signs off on Clark’s contract before the October 31 trade deadline, making him a Chief once again.
