Fantasy disappointments this season by position

In fantasy football, hindsight is always 20/20. Every fantasy football player deals with regret here and there throughout the season but nothing is worse than having your supposed “ace in the hole” struggle to meet expectations. Heading into week 11 of the NFL season, we take a look at some fantasy disappointments this year by position.

QB- Dak Prescott

Remember at the beginning of the season when ESPN picked Prescott as the most likely quarterback to go over 6,000 yards and 60 touchdowns? Yeah, that’s not happening this year. Prescott has been a great quarterback this year and has led the Dallas Cowboys to a 7-2 record that has them sitting comfortably atop the NFC East. When it comes to fantasy production, however, his performance has been underwhelming. He hasn’t been a bust by any means but the fantasy football world was expecting a bit more. He’s averaging around 21 points per game and hasn’t gone over 30 points once this season. He currently ranks as the 10th best fantasy quarterback, which is a little surprising considering all the wild stat projections he had going into this season.

RB- Dalvin Cook

Everyone seems to be crowning Antonio Gibson as the biggest fantasy letdown at the RB position this season but that’s just not the case. Dalvin Cook had an outstanding 2020 season where he averaged 21 fantasy points a game and often single-handedly won fantasy managers their games. The 2021 season has been a completely different story. In the 7 games Cook has played in 2021, he’s averaged only 14.2 fantasy points and has scored just 3 times. Taking into account his average draft day position, which was second overall, Cook should be considered a bust this year. He currently ranks as the 22nd best running back in fantasy football.

WR- Julio Jones

It has been difficult to watch Julio Jones fall off as hard as he has in 2021. The former Atlanta Falcon has arguably been the best wideout in pro football for the last decade but his production has been awful in Tennessee. He’s on pace for his worst season ever and he currently ranks as the 75th best wideout in fantasy football. His 7.4 points per game are jarring considering AJ Brown is on the other side demanding a considerable amount of defensive attention. Jones also just got put on IR as he deals with a hamstring issue so it’s safe to say he has been an absolute dud in 2021.

TE- Darren Waller

Similar to Prescott, Waller hasn’t been a bust by any means but it’s surprising to see him rank outside the top 5 in fantasy tight end rankings. Waller had an outstanding week 1 where he posted 21.5 points but since then he has been only slightly above average in terms of production. He's averaging about 10 points a game in 2021 which is solid for a tight end but just below expectations for someone of Waller’s caliber. He is still the best offensive weapon the Raiders have so hope remains for him to return to his usual dominant form.
