Another Philly legend has decided to hang up his boots

A true Philly great has decided that it's his time to step away from the game of football for good. This past Wednesday, March 30th, Malcolm Jenkins announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 outstanding seasons.  

The two-time Super Bowl champion played six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2014-to 2019 and never missed a single game. He was drafted into the league by the New Orleans Saints in 2009 and helped them win Super Bowl in 2010. 

After playing in New Orleans for four years, he was traded to Philly and played a key role in helping the Eagles take home a long-awaited Super Bowl win in the 2017 NFL season.

Leadership

Jenkins, in my eyes, will go down as one of the greatest Eagles leaders of all time, on and off the field. He has always carried himself with grace and has instilled a fearless, never give up mentality into players around him.

Jenkins never missed a single game in the six seasons he played with the Eagles. In addition, he has shown his IQ and versatility by playing multiple positions on the field, including strong safety, free safety, cornerback, and even outside linebacker.

 He was also nominated twice for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, given to players recognized for their volunteer and charity work.

Malcolm Jenkins is one of those players that Eagles fans will remember as someone who stuck with us during the bad times so that he could be there for the great times. Jenkins was with us during Chip Kelly's two seasons as a head coach, which were not such great seasons for an Eagles fan. 

When Doug Pederson became the head coach, he was a big believer in Pederson's ability to turn this program around. He would soon become the captain of a formidable Jim Schwartz defense that took home a Super Bowl when Malcolm Jenkins lit up Brandon Cook.

He was nominated for the Pro Bowl three times during his six years with Philadelphia. He also recorded 11 interceptions, four touchdowns, and 515 tackles.

 As a true Philadelphia Eagles fan, I would like to thank Malcolm Jenkins. We would have never won a Super Bowl without you. I can`t wait to see your jersey retired in the Eagles' Ring of Honor.
