Cowboys Back on Track After Blowout Game: Cowboys Win Over Falcons 43-3

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys had already answered their worst showing of the season when the star quarterback took off on a fourth-down scramble near the goal line. The powerful touchdown at the end finished the game with a blowout of Atlanta on Sunday.

Prescott also threw for two touchdowns, Elliott scored twice and Wright recovered a blocked punt in the end zone a week after touching one kept Dallas from getting the ball as the Dallas Cowboys rolled to a 43-3 win. It was clear as day last week against the Broncos wasn’t the Cowboys week—and everyone knows that.

It left a bad taste in our mouths. I think it’s a taste we needed in a sense to understand how tough this game is”.
— Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott

Unlike last week, the offensive execution was top tier. The Cowboys (7-2) looked much more like the NFL’s No. 1 offense with Prescott out there throwing the ball and getting two touchdowns thanks to CeeDee Lamb on the opening drive and Elliot finishing two others kept alive by fourth-down conversions. The Cowboys went out there and set the tone. They wanted it all, and that’s exactly what they got because Mike McCarthy executed his team very well.

The first half ended with a sequence that led to the highest-scoring quarter in franchise history (29 points in the second) and Dallas’ biggest halftime lead (36-3) since 1971.

Atlanta (4-5) had 12 men on the field for the extra point, so the Cowboys went for the two point conversion from the 1. Elliot added another plunge across the goal line.

Matt Ryan led the Falcons to the Dllas 20 in just four plays on their first possession before settling for a field goal. Ryan didn’t get that deep into Cowboy territory again though, threw two interceptions—including Trevon Diggs’ NFL-leading eighth—was pulled before the end of the third with Atlanta down.

The Falcons were moving again in the second time they had the ball before facing a fourth-and-7. Atlanta passed on a 50-yard field goal try, and the Dallas Cowboys cornerback Lewis had the second of consecutive pass breakups.

We wanted to be more aggressive coming in here, I know it was fourth-and-7, but looking at it at that point of the game, we know ew what kind of offense we were playing on the other side.”

Prescott was 24 of 31 for 296 yards before sitting in the fourth quarter, while Ryan finished with a 21.4 rating. He was 9 of 21 for 117 yards with the Atlanta Falcons coming off a 27-25 win over the Saints.

But don’t get it twisted, the Falcons are better than they played against the Cowboys. Sunday just wasn’t their day and that’s okay—every team has those days. As ugly as it was, the Falcons get 17 of these opportunities. To come back from this all they need to do is simply comeback from this and play to the standard that they’re capable of.

The Dallas Cowboys held the Falcons to season worsts in first downs, with it being 11, and third down conversions bringing it to 1 of 11.
