Can the Raiders make a playoff push?
Las Vegas, Nevada (PSF) — The Las Vegas Raiders have not had the season anyone involved within or outside of the organization wanted or expected, starting the season off 2-7. The Raiders front office added some big names in the offseason to help prepare themselves or effectively compete in the loaded AFC West Division. However the division overall has been a let down this season with only the Kansas City Chiefs showing to be a true contender, even though they suffered the biggest loss when star wide receiver Tyreek Hill left for sunnier skies with the Miami Dolphins.
Ultimately the signings the Raiders have made have turned out decently. Wide receiver Davante Adams has been everything as advertised this season and the offensive line has stepped up and not been as inferior as expected by fans and experts. Running back Josh Jacobs has had his best season yet, and is currently leading the NFL in rushing yards. Miraculously Derek Carr is in the bottom half of quarterback sack numbers.
Overall, I believe the problem with the Raiders this year has been coaching and the entire team not playing as a unit. This same scenario happened under Josh McDaniels when he was the coach for the Denver Broncos in 2009-2010.
With the Raiders improving their record to 4-7 after back to back overtime walk-off touchdown wins, Las Vegas seems to have some momentum going and could swing things in the right direction. The first came against Denver, defeating them 22-16 in OT on a bomb pass from Carr to Adams, who burned his defender and walked into the end zone. Following that was last weeks’ surprising 40-34 upset over the Seattle Seahawks. An 86 yard touchdown run by Josh Jacobs in overtime won that game.
In conclusion, the Las Vegas Raiders are still in the playoff hunt, but they have a tough road to end the season.
