Are the Lions Actually Frauds?
The Detroit Lions have now lost two of their last three games with their only win in that span being a close game to the New Orleans Saints. This begs the question about the legitimacy of the Lions and if they are truly frauds or not.
The Lions have been struggling for most of the second half of the season being in more and more tight games than they were in the first half of the season. The offense has taken a step back in production and has yet to play a full game since their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The defense once again this year is the weak point of the team as they have declined in their effectiveness being ranked the lowest in the league over the last seven weeks.
Take for example the Bears game this weekend, the Lions defense stepped up and made huge stops, but the offense just failed to deliver on those stops and get points on the board. The offense finally got a spark in the second quarter putting up 13 points to take a 13-10 lead going into the half with the Lions receiving the second half kickoff.
The Lions then proceeded to implode in the second half with every part of the team collapsing against a subpar Chicago Bears team that the Lions should have dominated in both games instead they drop a goose egg in the second half. This is on the cusp of their two biggest games of the season coming up with their matchups against the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys.
It has almost been a full 180 from last season when the Lions struggled in the first half of the season before turning it around in the second half. Now this year, the Lions seem to be struggling in the second half of the season after having a hot start to their season.
While the losses to the Packers and Bears can be chalked up to them being divisional games where the games are always closer than they should be. This puts the Lions in a position where they need to prove in these last few games of the season if they can get back on their feet and show the fans the Lions we saw at the beginning of the season.
Now for the question in the title of the article βAre the Lions Actually Frauds?β the answer is that the Lions are not frauds, but they are instead just playing at their actual level. Realistically, the Lions are not a Super Bowl contender and had a really hot start before finally coming back down to their true talent level. This is still early in the Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes and the progress of the team is the best thing that Lions fans could see at this point in their tenure. Injuries has hurt the Lions defense the most and while this may not be the year where the Lions go all the way as more and more time passes with the current regime the Lions will continue to get better and continue to build the team up into a serious contender year by year.
